Ceramic Coatings
AtomicRex are national distributors for Zircotec Coatings based in Oxfordshire. Zircotec developed their high temperature coatings and heat barrier processes for the nuclear industry. In 1994 they started to apply their thermal barriers within motorsport. To reduce cabin temperatures of the Subaru rally cars the manifolds and exhausts were coated, this soon lead to other teams and specialist sports car manufactures looking to improve their own heat management.
Zircotec are now considered to be the market leader in thermal coatings; working with an extensive list of prestigious companies in F1, FIA and supercar manufactures, as well as road and club racers who want reduce heat soak within the engine bay and cockpit.
Exhaust System Coatings
Zircotec have developed a range of ultra higher performance thermal barrier coatings that are specifically designed to prevent unwanted heat loss from engine exhaust system components; exhaust manifolds, exhaust headers, turbocharger casings, exhaust system down pipes, hot engine components, tailpipes and any areas where heat soak is a problem to surrounding areas. .
Heat retention is also important as it maintains higher gas velocity and therefore less thermal lag. These coatings are available in a variety of ranges.
The Primary Range
The Primary Range has been launched as an Entry level coating. It is designed, using Zircotec's patented ThermoHold formulation, to offer a potential 25% reduction in radiated heat, but at a considerably reduced price of the Performance Range.
Despite this compromise in overall performance it is still significantly better than that of either ceramic paint or wraps, and produces a durable lasting finish unlike that of the paint and wraps.
The Performance Range
Similar to the Primary Range the Performance Range is based on Zircotec's ThermoHold formulation, however it is able to offer a greater reduction of temperatures of approximately 33%.
The coating has capabilities of withstanding temperatures of up to 1,400 degrees Celsius, offering a reduction in surface temperatures as great as 467 degrees Celsius.
In natural form the Primary Range comes in a milky white colour called Performance White. There are a further 13 colours that offer the same durability and performance but offer a focal point to the parts.
Carbon Composite Coating
Zircotec has pioneered an advanced thermal barrier coating system for the protection of carbon composite material and other composite components, increasing fire resistance and providing better protection against delamination and resin melt.
